Laboratory department contains clinical laboratory room, biochemistry room, immunity room, bacteria room, blood gas room, genetic room, physiochimistry room, tumor lab, blood bank,blood coagulation room,and reproductive medical lab as well as emergency test room and outpatient clinical laboratory.The work focuses on the test of samples like blood, urine, stool, semen, pleural and ascitic fluid,prostatic fluid and cerebrospinal fluid.Among 600 items carried out in laboratory department, some have a leading position in Hebei province, such as genotyping and diagnostic technology and tissue matching, which provide reliable basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

In addition, the department has 13 special speciality lab in order to provide timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment for the patients. Assuring the accuracy of the test results, the department establishes quality supervising team, three-level examination regulations. Regular examination of quality control is conducted with the purpose of avoiding errors and mistakes. Every year the department attends the room quality evaluation conducted by Tangshan city, Hebei provincial and national health bureau, with the outstanding results.

The department has recently published 70 articles and edited 5 books, and has won one third prize for progress in science and technology of Hebei province(Manufacturing and application of broad spectrum anticoagulation tablet), one first prize for progress in science and technology of Tanghshan city(Correlative study of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and leucocyte antigen).PhD, Doc. Tian Wei, went to England to carry out some programs about neutrophilic granulocyte in 2001 funded by British WellcomTrust with 80.000 pounds. At present the department is cooperating with Basic institute of Beijing Medical academy of science to conduct the program predisposing genes investigation of cardiocerebral vascular diseases.

In 2001 the department was appraised as the key department and the director Doc. Chen Mengzhi, was evaluated as the outstanding talented person of Tangshan Health system.

Faculty

There are 40 work staff, including 4 vice director laboratorians, 14 senior-rank laboratorians,7 laboratorians and 5 inspectors, one of whom has doctor degree and 2 master degree.In order to meet the needs of development, the department attaches great importance to the talented personnel.

In addition, the department takes charge of Tangshan clinical laboratory center work, taking responsibilities for quality evaluation of 60 hospitals. Every year the department hold twice or three times provincial and city-level progress and new technology of laboratory medical science studying class, inviting well-known specialists to give lectures, in which the regularized management of laboratory is improved and the error of laboratory results is effectively controlled, laying a firm basis for the conformity f laboratory and making great efforts to improve the technological level and managerial level.

Develop prospect:

In 21 century, the most advanced technology, that is application of molecular biological diagnostic technology and the relation of gene and disease become the hot spot of medical research.The increasing virulence gene or gene marker of disease is discovered, the former of which focuses on the research of virulence gene of clinical disease or gene polymorphism, like the related gene of diabetic mellitus, arteriosclerosis,hypertension, coronary heart disease, and cerebral infarction while the letter of which interests in the gene therapy.

In order to catch up with the development in medical sciences and meet the increasing needs for better health care of our people, the department will do their utmost to enhance academic and technological levels, constantly improve technological level and do more contribution to the medical course and the health of Tangshan people with great enthusiasm.
