Intensive care unit(ICU) is a comprehensive ward equipped with advanced facilities, including multifunctional invasive and noninvasive monitoring equipment and detector devices, which represents integral medical level of comprehensive hospital.

Since 1992 when ICU was established in our hospital, advanced facilities worth approximate 5 millions, were equipped,such as Simens 900c feeding respirator, which can treat respiratory failure(like ARDS). ICU defibrillation pacing maker can conduct defibrillation and in vitro temporary pacing for the patients with ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest, and microvolume pump can strictly control the speed of transfuse and drug dosage. Simens732 type monitor can display the breath, heart rate, blood pressure, ECG, blood oxygen saturation, invasive blood pressure, mean arterial blood pressure and pulse; left central venous catheter and Swan-Gans catheter can provide reliable data about central venous pressure, right ventricular and atrial pressure, pulmonary artery pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, cardiac output and cardiac index, which contribute to the treatment of cardiogenic pulmonary diseases and shock; AVL blood gas analyzer can provide indexes within 2 minutes, including acid – alkali degree, oxygen blood pressure and partial pressure of carbon dioxide, which helps the rescue of the patients

There are 12 beds in ICU, which is the largest comprehensive medical unit in our city, with 13 well trained physicians and 37 nurses, including 1 vice chief physician, 2 attending physician and 10 residencies. Rich experiences in the treatment and nursing of critical patients, such as acute lung injury and respiratory failure by use of mechanical ventilation, were accumulated through the integrated medicine and nursing for the patients, in particular in the choice of best PEEP,plasma exchange treating drug and pesticides poisoning and acute liver failure, small dose of heparin plus trasylol treating acute subacute diffused intravascular coagulation,closed mask compressed mechanical ventilation treating status asthmaticus,parenteral nutrition treating short bowel syndrome,the treatment of hyperosmos complicated with diabetes insipidus caused by brain injury, severe electrolure and acid-alkali imbalance and maintenance treatment of the patients after the ectracorporeal circulation cardiac operation .For this the survival rate of the patients is being improved gradually. For the sake of the need of the patients, ICU is now under enlargement, adding 6 beds .
