Located at the southern foot of the picturesque Phoenix Mountain in Tangshan downtown area and named by Zhude, the former vice-chairman of the state, instituted in January of 1953 and rebuilt after the big earthquake in 1976, Tangshan Gongren Hospital is a large class A in grade 3 general hospital, undertaking the tasks of medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and rehabilitation, with an artistically-designed magnificent building complex covering a land area of 65000m2 and a floor space of 56800-m2. Tangshan Gongren Hospital is now becoming Tangshan Clinical Medical College of Hebei Medial University.
The hospital has 1010 beds. The annual attendance of out-patients is about 1020000 persons/time. The number of in-patients is about 21000 persons/time annually, among whom operated patients account for 6000. The using rate of beds is 92.1% and improvement rate is 95.1%. It has a staff of 2013 people, including 202 people with high-rank professional titles, 533 with middle-rank and 833 with primary-rank professional titles, with 88.9% people of health technical titles. There are 12 people with doctorate and 116 with master degree.19 people are the tutor for postgraduate.

The hospital consists of 48 clinical and technical departments,50 special clinics and 66 specialist clinics. Directly under the hospital are a number of city-level key medical and research institutes, including Burn Research Institute of Hebei Province, Tangshan Emergency Center, the Clinical Laboratory Center,the Radio-immunity Assay Center,and the Digestive Tract Endoscopic Treatment Center, and cerebrovascular disease research institute. It is also a teaching hospital of the North China Coal Medical College and Chengde Medical College.

Over the recent years, great importance has been attached to teaching and scientific research work and stick to the principle of hospital having focus, department having peculiarity and people having speciality. The majority of the research programs assigned by the Hebei Province and Tangshan City and the in-hospital special research programs have been awarded prizes. Its Burn Department is now a provincial-level key developing department and the base for training the postgraduates of Hebei Medical University. The city-level key departments include burn,cardiology,neurology, neurosurgery, nephrology, ICU, clinical laboratory. Blood, indigestion, endocrine, liver and biliary tract surgery and urinary surgery possess also distinctive technological features in the city, taking a leading role in the city. Moreover vigorous efforts have been made on development of new technologies, therapeutic methods and projects, many of which have reached advanced domestic or provincial level, including the implantation of permanent artificial cardiac pacemaker, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty(PTCA) and stand retaining method, dilation of valvular stenosis with sacclus, partial block technique for congenital heart disease, intracardiac repair under direct vision, coronary bypass,computer-assisted orientation operation, transsella turcica pituitary gland resection, transarterial thrombolysis treatment of acute cerebral infarction, intracranial arterial stent implantation of carotid artery, autotransplantation of bone marrow, kidney and lung transplantation intervention therapy and peritoneoscopic technique.
